“Life and music, for me, are practically the same thing. A man cannot separate himself from his emotions, if he wants to be happy”. These are the words of Matteo Favretto, aka MisterMat, author of the song “Giovane Sole”, published by the record label “Sorridi Music” (www.sorridimusic.it), of the singer and record producer Jo Conti and published by the music editions “Magilla Spettacoli”.
Favretto began playing the guitar at the age of seven, studying classical and modern music. At fourteen he joined his father's orchestra and began his career. In that period his first recordings arrived such as "Momenti d'amore" and "Rosa Rosa" and many live performances and television videos. Later, he left the orchestras and devoted himself to his passion: rock, blues. The single "Sola" published by "DivinazioneMilano" is an ambitious attempt to write a blues in Italian and represents an artistic turning point. This was followed by new collaborations and new singles "Fly" and "Make me smile" published by "Smilax" and "Paia Pa Pa" published by "Frontaman". Energetic voice, cover player, essential and incisive guitarist MisterMat today returns to the public with a beautiful song "Giovane Sole", a text that tells of the moment in which a man, who was a son, becomes a father. “The young sun – says the artist – is the new and illuminating light that comes from a new life that is appearing in the world”.
Interview with MisterMat, author of the song “Giovane Sole”
– Singer-songwriter: What do music and writing represent for you in your life?
“Music has been in my life since I was born, because growing up in a house of musicians, I have always taken it seriously, almost as a family rule. In my grandfather's house you could always hear someone playing, someone practicing, a student in class, rehearsals before an evening. Starting to play was, therefore, almost natural and playful in some ways. When you are very young, instruments seem like toys, they attract you, you want to touch them and see what happens! In my case, my vocation is inseparable from the family context. Playing is something wonderful, a fantastic gift that life has given me. Writing is a need that comes spontaneously, like speaking, regardless of expectations or success. It is part of the expression of each of us, because it is communication.”
– “Formidable strength for a fragile man//Young sun you will fight near me”: a fragile man is a beautiful vocal expression: what does he mean? Is it art that can make us fragile and (too) sensitive?
"We are all fragile, because our existence is fragile. We must always find within ourselves the formidable strength, we must be our own sun that illuminates our own steps, so as to be full of energy."
– What are your upcoming projects?
“The next projects are: a blues album in collaboration with important names of the Venetian and national scene and a project that I care a lot about, an album in the Sardinian language, containing some popular songs rearranged in a rock and blues key, some covers and something original (I am proudly Sardinian by maternal origin, I always say that my blood is Barbagia, because my mother made me! It is something that I care a lot about, I love Sardinia and its united and extraordinary people).”
– What do you expect from this single?
"I'm no longer a boy, I have two children, a job that many would call normal and many commitments. What I expect is to be happy and to have the satisfaction that gives me the right push to continue to enjoy music."
