San Marco Evangelista. Forestry Carabinieri belonging to the Investigative Unit of the Environmental, Agri-food and Forestry Police of Caserta, NIPAAF, during the performance of a territorial control activity aimed at combating the phenomenon of "toxic fires" within the environmental emergency problem of the so-called "land of fires", spotted from a distance a column of dark-colored smoke rising from within the ASI area of the municipality of San Marco Evangelista (CE).
The immediate intervention allowed us to ascertain that, in the yard of a factory, located in the industrial area of the aforementioned municipality, a combustion of waste was in progress, stored inside a steel container measuring 2 x 3 m and approximately 50 cm high. The waste consisted, as far as it could be characterized at sight, of wooden material from disused furniture, plastic material, and other now burnt material.
The investigations allowed to ascertain that FP from the province of Naples, aged 48, owner of the company, had proceeded to accumulate the above-described waste inside the metal container and then set it on fire.
The military then proceeded to immediately seize on their own initiative the metal container containing the burnt waste residues for evidentiary purposes and reported the aforementioned FP at liberty to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (CE) for illegal management of special waste and disposal of the same by means of illicit combustion.
During the investigation, an administrative violation was also discovered related to the irregular maintenance of the loading and unloading register of hazardous waste produced by the same company, leading to the imposition of an administrative fine of €4.133.
