A man driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs injured himself and a woman. The accident occurred yesterday afternoon in Forchia, in the province of Benevento. The accident occurred on the Appia State Road 7, near Sant'Alfonso, when the driver of a Mercedes C 220, traveling toward Caserta, failed to stop at a red light and violently impacted a Renault Clio, which was coming in a perpendicular direction. A sergeant of the Carabinieri on duty in Maddaloni (CE), who was off duty, witnessed the accident. After calling the operations center in Montesarchio, since the driver of the Mercedes was fleeing, he pursued him in his car, managing to apprehend the fugitive a few kilometers later, in Rotondi, in the province of Avellino. The 36-year-old man responsible for the accident, who lives in Cervinara (Avenza), was injured, as was the woman driving the Renault. The two were transported by 118 paramedics to San Pio Hospital in Benevento, where they were treated and released. The man, who tested positive for alcohol and drug-related injuries, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He is currently under house arrest.
