Claudio Ranieri, coach of Sampdoria, after the home defeat at the hands of Napoli spoke at the microphone of Sky Sport: "We played against a very good Napoli. I'm not saying they surprised us at the start, even though the two goals would suggest that, but they did well. By switching to a 4-3-1-2, we regained control of the game. In the second half, we did a lot, and they didn't. Then, at the end, if you make mistakes, there are players who make you pay for them, so congratulations to Napoli."
Quagliarella's substitution was decisive. “Both he and Ramirez are quality players; when they're missing, the quality drops. They've done great things, but I was forced once again to make substitutions due to injuries and the like and not to play my cards right.”
Conceded too many goals in the first half hour. "We didn't enter the pitch with the right attitude. Fortunately, however, we were in the game; we didn't make any mistakes, otherwise it would have meant that our mental preparation would have been flawed. When I changed the tactical formation, we performed much better."
Can the 4-3-1-2 be used in other matches? "This is the third time I've done it. I started against Lecce and we were losing. We did it in Cagliari, perhaps our best game, when we lost 4-3 in the 97th minute. We must always be focused and determined and not make mistakes, because we pay dearly for them. I leave with confidence. When I arrived, we were three points from safety, now we're four points above. We've recovered seven points. We're in good shape, otherwise you don't play this kind of game against players who play like Napoli's."
