Out of prison thanks to the anti-Covid rules contained in the decree issued last March by the Prime Minister. There are 61 inmates of the Avellino prison who, having less than 18 months of sentence, will be able to serve the remaining period under house arrest at home or in other authorized facilities.
The number of inmates in the Bellizzi Irpino facility drops from 556 counted at the end of last February, to 495, also solving the problem of overcrowding in the penitentiary facility suitable for a number of guests not exceeding 500. In the Avellino prison, an external tent was equipped from the very beginning for triage with respect to new arrivals and to verify the conditions of suspect inmates, but specialist and especially psychiatric visits inside are suspended. Only in cases of emergency are inmates taken to the hospital.
So far, no cases of contagion have been recorded in the Avellino prison, where family visits are blocked until May 17, as in all other penal institutions, but the means to facilitate video calls have been strengthened, always in the presence of prison officers. For a few days, the management of the Avellino prison has started the procedure to allow distance learning for inmates who were following school and training courses.
