Bomb attack last night, at the children's store "Annabel" in via Martiri d'Ungheria in Scafati. The device exploded around three o'clock and caused damage to the shop windows and caused fear in the residents of the building and the entire area. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident and have already interviewed the owner with summary information who stated that he had never received threats or extortion requests. In the meantime, the military have examined the public and private cameras in the area to have elements useful for the investigation.
“Tonight's message is, unfortunately, a strong and clear one. The Camorra reminds its victims and the city that it exists, that it operates and that it demands, even now. In our city, this is nothing new,” say the representatives of the Democratic Party Michele Grimaldi and Michele Russo. And then they add, “We are all concerned: for criminal forces that continue to act greedily and violently on our territory, putting the safety of our community at risk, and harming our economy and – above all – our dignity. The anti-racket counter should be quickly reinstated by the Municipality, a concrete crackdown should be produced against the black market of slot machines, those urban voids that only generate opportunities for illegality should be protected and filled with opportunities and culture. We cannot and should never let our guard down. We must react, and do it quickly.”
And again: "This moment of crisis, with still dramatically uncertain prospects, risks being an even more fertile breeding ground for corruption and its proliferation. Citizens, each for their part, must make a common front, collaborate, report and be in solidarity with the victims. Only united can we continue to fight such phenomena. It is certainly necessary, we have been saying for some time, to strengthen the police force in Scafati. The third city of the province cannot have only a barracks of carabinieri who do a commendable job, however they are clearly understaffed. And at night if something happens, often, we have to wait for men to arrive from Nocera Inferiore. Unacceptable. Not to mention the lack of a police station. Objectives that must be common to all political forces.
Scafati has certainly been complaining for too many years about the lack of an efficient, modern and widespread video surveillance network throughout the municipal territory. Unjustifiable delays, just as unjustifiable is the failure to adhere over the years to the many calls for tenders that financed such interventions. And the absence of such efficient systems is a strongly negative indicator in the evaluations of the central bodies on the work of the administrations. Those who have responsibility for local government have another duty, to erect an insurmountable and impermeable wall to any attempt at criminal infiltration in public administrative management. And on this in Scafati we must be even more vigilant and we will be”.
