The lockdown ends and immediately the sea and rivers become polluted again. The situations of Sarno, Regi Lagni and the sea of the port of Baia, of Villaggio Coppola are worrying. Borrelli: “What we feared is happening. We have asked for widespread checks on the companies and industries that have reopened to stop a new environmental devastation”.
AAs soon as phase 2 of the Coronavirus emergency began, the images of totally clear and crystalline seas and rivers already seem like a distant memory, the partial resumption of production activities, in fact, already seems to be negatively influencing the environment in the Campania region. Evidence of the return to pollution are some images, sent by several citizens to the Regional Councilor of the laughing sun Francesco Emilio Borrelli, which show how the waters of the sea of the port of Baia and of the Villaggio Coppola, those of the Sarno river and of the Regi Lagni have already begun to change color, to get dirty and polluted in a worrying way.
"What we feared is happening: the return of productive and human activities is bringing our sea, our rivers, our air and our territories back to the same disastrous conditions they were in before the health emergency. We must absolutely not underestimate this alarm bell because at this rate things will get worse and worse until we reach a point of no return and then we will find ourselves in a disaster much more devastating than an epidemic. This is why we have asked for blanket checks on companies and industries that have reopened to stop a new environmental devastation. We must start thinking about and implementing an eco-compatible economic system and above all we must wage war on the criminals who pollute our land, with abusive and illegal dumping, we need to take a hard line with these people." - attacked Councilor Borrelli.
