"From many quarters, the heroism and selflessness of healthcare personnel in the fight to tackle the Covid-19 epidemic is rightly noted. The undisputed protagonists are all healthcare professionals in various capacities engaged in carrying out the main tasks deriving from their respective roles and professional skills. Doctors and nurses first and foremost. However, there is a culpable gap with respect to the role played by Biologists who operate within the National Health System and in other bodies also involved in the daily fight against the viral disease. They are professionals engaged in determining swabs and serological analyses on infected patients and, therefore, among the categories most exposed to risk factors. Unfortunately, discrimination against biologists is also evident from the point of view of remuneration, as the latter have been excluded from the economic benefits provided only for some professional categories, including laboratory technicians, within the Cura Italia Decree. As the Government approaches the renewing of the effectiveness of the legislative provision, I appeal to the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, to the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, to the presidents of the Health Committees of the Chamber and Senate and to all parliamentary groups to also include biologists in the categories of beneficiaries of the contributions provided for health workers, avoiding the paradox that those who assume the professional responsibility of carrying out analytical tests are denied the bonus, instead provided for technicians working in the same laboratory sector".
