In Denmark, work is underway to complete ambitious and interesting projects for the enhancement of the national heritage.
Awill open to the public in June 2021 the new museum dedicated to the writer Hans Christian Andersen (Odense, 1805 – Copenhagen, 1875), famous for his fairy tales – among all, The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl and The Princess and the Pea – which have accompanied generations of children. An innovative project wanted by his hometown, which combines culture, sustainable architecture and nature.
The new museum will be built on an area of 5.600 square meters, about two-thirds of which will be below ground level, with the aim of concreting over as small an area as possible and freeing up the rest of the space for a large urban park. When the winning project was announced in the Odense city tender in April 2016, then mayor Anker Boye explained his choice by saying that the proposal by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma captures the spirit of Hans Christian Andersen and the city.
