Naples. The blood of San Gennaro has liquefied: in a deserted church due to the coronavirus and without the traditional procession, the blood in the ampoule has liquefied.
IMany were waiting for this response that arrived in live streaming, as a signal for the emergency we are experiencing. The Archbishop Emeritus of Naples Crescenzio Sepe announced the miracle, a few minutes have passed since the beginning of the mass that is currently being celebrated in the Cathedral of Naples. This year the traditional procession from the Cathedral to the Basilica of Santa Chiara in memory of the translation of the Relics of the Agro Marciano to the Catacombs of San Gennaro was not held. Therefore, the ampoule with the Blood, in the safe behind the altar of the Chapel of the Treasury, was taken by Cardinal Sepe who brought it to the main altar of the Cathedral to begin the celebration. Present together with Cardinal Sepe were the Mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris, in his capacity as president of the Deputation of San Gennaro, Riccardo Imperiali di Francavilla, member of the Deputation, and Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio, abbot of the Chapel of San Gennaro. The announcement was greeted by the traditional waving of the white handkerchief by the member of the Deputation of San Gennaro from the altar of the Cathedral. “Even in this time of coronavirus, the Lord through the intercession of San Gennaro has melted the blood,” said Cardinal Sepe.
“As soon as the mayor and I opened the safe, we found that the blood had already dissolved,” explained Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, interpreting the liquefaction of the blood as “a sign of predilection and benevolence for our beautiful city of Naples, for Campania, for all of Italy and for the whole world.”
