“From all the evidence we have seen, more than 15.000 genetic sequences, I believe this virus is of animal origin.” This was underlined by Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove of the WHO, regarding the statements of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo according to whom the virus could have originated in a Chinese laboratory. “There is a link with bats,” she said, “we need to understand the intermediate host.”
“The antidote to the virus is international solidarity, it is the human spirit.” This was underlined by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at a press conference in Geneva. “We are also grateful to the more than 300.000 individuals, companies and foundations who have contributed to the Covid-19 Solidarity Fund, which has generated more than 210 million dollars in the last 6 weeks,” concluded the DG.
