NOn the second day of Phase 2, no particular inconveniences or malfunctions on public transport in Naples have been reported. At the moment, the only problems have been reported on line 621, which replaces the Mergellina funicular. According to union sources, before being able to leave, Anm staff had to request the intervention of the police due to disturbances caused by the insistence of passengers who did not want to respect the maximum capacity currently allowed on buses. “It is an absurd situation,” USB reports, “which is caused by the closure of the funicular and the reduced operating hours of line 621, which can be used in the 7-10 and 17-19 time slots.
The Mergellina funicular, which was closed during the lockdown, must be reopened immediately to ensure the right mobility offer”. In these first days in which Neapolitans have started moving again, they are proving to be mostly respectful of the rules needed to use public transport: wearing a mask is mandatory and keeping a distance of at least one metre. Anm (Azienda napoletana mobilita') also strongly recommends the use of gloves. While the situation on the metro and funiculars does not show any problems despite the flows having doubled compared to the lockdown phase, there are some difficulties for those who use buses that can only carry 20 per cent of the total capacity and once the maximum possible number of users on board has been reached, they do not stop.
