A fine wine counterfeiting ring operating in Brescia has been busted: 11 people have been investigated in the 'Vuoti a rendere' operation by the NAS of the Carabinieri of Florence.
NIn the provinces of Avellino, Barletta-Andria-Trani, Brescia, Como, Foggia, Pisa, Prato and Rome, the military, coordinated by the prosecutor of the Brescia public prosecutor's office, Erica Battaglia, today executed 9 search warrants against as many suspects, held responsible, together with two other people already the object of investigative interest, for counterfeiting fine wines, both Italian (with Igt/Doc/Docg brands) and foreign.
The investigation began in October 2018, following reports of the sale in Italy and Belgium via the online auction platform Ebay of counterfeit bottles of fine Igt Toscana wine that were intended to mislead the buyer about the origin, provenance and quality of the product contained, different from that indicated on the label. The investigative findings on the traces left by the sellers allowed the location of a real wine counterfeiting center in the province of Brescia, conceived and created by an Italian citizen.
