Controversy after the cleanup operation carried out a few days ago by volunteers from the environmentalist association Hippocampus.
IPresident Ciro Borrelli complains that he has been subjected to a paradoxical situation following the reef cleaning operation. Having gone to the site of the operation with his own vehicle, he was stopped and fined by the traffic police for violating the no-entry sign that leads to the Borbonico pier. When he protested, the officers invited him to follow them to the police station to issue a ticket. Once he left the police station, he kept the ticket in his pocket and began cleaning the reef with the volunteers of his association. Once the cleaning work was finished, he contacted the mayor of Ercolano by phone, sending him a WhatsApp audio message where, disheartened, he denounced what had happened: “I was treated like a criminal”.
The mayor of Ercolano Ciro Buonajuto, attentive to environmental issues, went to the Borbonico pier that morning to follow the operations closely. He learned later of the controversy that had involved the president of the Hippocampus association and was disappointed, however, he confirmed that "the ban is in force and you cannot access the Borbonico pier with your own cars".
