The Santa Maria Capua Vetere public prosecutor's office has executed an emergency precautionary seizure order for a section of the city walls in Teano in the area between Via Nuova and Via Giglio.
Land walls date back to the 4th century BC and were those of the ancient Teanum sidicinum. The criminal proceedings from which the seizure against unknown persons originated arose from the report of the firefighters of the provincial command of Caserta for a static failure caused by a visible vertical lesion and some enormous holes with detachment of some large stones for recognizing the urgency of safety and repair work.
Technical tests have allowed us to verify that the entire part of the wall facing the steps of Via Nuova has a large vertical lesion and rather pronounced bulges in the masonry, as well as a widespread state of degradation of the mortar joints also due to the presence of invasive vegetation. Furthermore, another diagonal lesion is clearly visible from the road that develops in the intersection of the slope of a building under the wall up to the parapet of the wall itself. The risk is that of a collapse of the wall, even partial, which however could affect adjacent and opposite buildings, and, the prosecutor's office emphasizes, the safety works have not been carried out to eliminate a danger to public and private safety. The mayor of Teano had initially prohibited pedestrian traffic, then revoked the ordinance.
