Double sighting this morning too. A Caretta caretta rests between Massa Lubrense and Capri. A group of striped dolphins flanks the Punta Campanella Marine Park vehicle.
A turtle resting in the sea between Massa Lubrense and Capri. A group of dolphins alongside the Punta Campanella Marine Park boat between Punta Montalto and Marina del Cantone. This morning too, there was a double sighting in the sea off the coast and off Massa Lubrense, after the “sea devil” and the bottlenose dolphins last Saturday.
Dino Astarita filmed the turtle with video and photos at first light. In a blue sea between Punta Campanella and Capri, the Caretta caretta was basking - literally basking - a typical attitude of sea turtles that warm themselves in the sunlight and that also serves to strengthen the shell thanks to a protein.
The Marine Park, also considering the accident last July, when a turtle was hit and killed by a vessel in that very area, invites respect for the navigation code, the permitted speed and the rules of the Marine Protected Area.
Not far away and still at the first light of dawn, the Marine Park's vessel, led by Luca Urro, came across a group of striped dolphins that, unfortunately, this time made themselves difficult to see, coming alongside the vessel but disappearing shortly after without the usual jumps and classic pirouettes.
