Cardito, the Marco Polo school closed in 2012 due to an accident and never reopened, now in disastrous conditions. The residents' complaint. Borrelli: "The area must be reclaimed."
LThe restart of school during this health emergency will necessarily have to focus on the search for and use of new spaces, to allow teaching activities to be carried out in complete safety and respecting social distancing, but in the Campania region, although such spaces exist in theory, they are not being used.
This is the case of the “Marco Polo” elementary school in Cardito which in 2012, due to an accident in which falling plaster and pieces of brick injured two teachers and two children, was evacuated and closed and never reopened.
Now the structure, as a citizen told the Regional Councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli representing the residents of Via Marconi and Via Libertà di Cardito, where the entrances to the school are, is in a dilapidated condition and is completely abandoned: "This school has been closed since 2012 and since then nothing has been done to reopen it and reuse it and today it even represents a form of degradation for our neighborhood. The structure is completely abandoned, wild vegetation has invaded the street and the accumulation of waste and garbage has attracted rats and all of this is unhealthy both for the children who play near the school and for all of us residents."
"We are speechless. Seeing that there are structures that are left to decay makes us angry. Now first of all we have asked that the area be reclaimed and cleaned, it is not possible that residents have to live next to this horror and more importantly we have sent a note to the municipality of Cardito and the regional school office to ask when they intend to proceed with the safety and restoration of this building, we are in a phase in which there is a need for new spaces and then we must get busy to make them usable. "- declared Councilor Borrelli.
