“Coronavirus, donate to all masks. I think they are a good thing”. Donald Trump finally admits the importance of covering your nose and mouth in an interview with Fox Business, but still appears reluctant to wear one, despite declaring that he is ready to do so if necessary.
I would wear one if I were in a “close situation” with other people, the US president says, adding however that he does not need to do so because all the people who come into contact with him are first tested for the coronavirus. Asked if he would be willing to wear a mask in public, Trump said he would have “no problem” with it. In fact, he added that he owns one, which makes him look like the character from “The Lone Ranger.”
A curious comparison, given that the character in question is wearing a mask over his eyes. Trump did not go so far as to say that masks should be mandatory, declaring that in some parts of the United States, people live “a long distance” from each other. While the contagion situation in the United States appears increasingly dramatic, voices continue to be raised, even among Republicans, for Trump to set a good example by wearing a mask in public.
But the president continues to show himself with his face uncovered, winking at that part of his electorate that does not want to wear it. And at events with the public, Trump has never asked those present to wear it.
