Naples. Celebration for Napoli's victory in the Coppa Italia: no spike in infections, WHO's anathema averted.
Pafter the canonical 14 days, indicative for the spread of the contagion, after the gatherings and celebrations of June 17th, Naples breathes a sigh of relief and can look with irony at the anathema of the WHO which had hypothesized a situation similar to the post Atalanta-Valencia which had triggered the mass contagion in Lombardy.
The celebrations, which began at 23 pm on June 17, immediately after the last penalty kick at the Olimpico that sealed the victory of the Azzurri over Juventus, and continued until dawn while waiting for the team's return, had given rise to numerous controversies. Crowds, few masks, hugs, dives into the city's fountains, flags, smoke bombs had raised a hornet's nest. The incident had also provoked comments from the scientific community and in particular from Ranieri Guerra, deputy director of the World Health Organization who in an interview had said: "It hurts to see these images. I remember how much the Atalanta match counted at the beginning of the epidemic in Lombardy in the spread of infections. I wouldn't want it to happen again now."
Fortunately, Campania, 14 days later, has no peaks in contagion - excluding the Mondragone case where the virus spread and was immediately contained - few positive cases or even zero infections have been recorded in recent days.
The Neapolitan celebration with people in the streets and without rules was repeated in Benevento, in the city of Clemente Mastella, where - despite the bans - it was not possible to contain the joy for the promotion to Serie A of Benevento Calcio with seven days to spare. In Benevento too the enthusiasm overflowed, with less controversy than in Naples this time.
