Greg Rega, the neo-soul singer, already winner of the first edition of All Together Now (Canale5), returns with an unreleased song that anticipates an instant album. In the new songs, only piano and voice, many collaborations.
Greg Rega is back in the news and he does it through his crystalline and powerful voice of a perfect soul singer of Neapolitan origin.
Having risen to prominence after winning the first edition of the Canale 5 game show All Together Now, in the last year Greg has released the unreleased songs, “Dint' all'anema” and “Chello che nun vuò fa cchiù”, which have made him one of the most interesting artists of the new national Urban wave.
The long summer-winter 2019 tour projected him towards a new season of concerts and collaborations but the pandemic has confined his voice. So, during a seminar with the award-winning author Bungaro, he wrote new verses that today become an unreleased song that he defines as "a Neapolitan waltz".
With the help of pianist Lorenzo Campese (collaborator of Daniele Sepe in Capitan Capitone, Fabiana Martone and for the show Dignità Autonome di Prostituzione), “Ogni vota” was born; not a summer hit nor a commercial piece but a song full of pathos, rich in feeling and sweetness.
“Ogni vota” anticipates the release of an instant album made during the quarantine that benefits from a multitude of collaborators who accompany Greg’s voice on the piano.
The video that accompanies the single is by Simona Giglio, a promising visual artist from Naples who, on the wave of emotion, drew all the scenes of the clip. The song was entirely produced at Dharma Recording Studio by Daniele Franzese.
“Just before the quarantine I wrote a text dedicated to Music that inevitably marries with the pandemic crisis we are experiencing” declares Greg Rega. “I chose to compose only with piano and voice to bring out the most intimate and emotional part of my way of making music. It is not intended to be a melancholic song – continues Greg – but rather a positive anthem that exalts my love for music; a form of popular art that is too mistreated and should be better protected by institutions”.
Biographical notes
Gregorio Rega, aka “Greg Rega”, was born in Roccarainola in the province of Naples. He approached music at the age of 20, starting to perform in clubs and perfecting his technique with nationally renowned masters such as Fulvio Tomaino with whom he specialized in the performance of Black music: R&B, Soul and Funk.
He boasts several collaborations and participations in different productions of the Campania and Italian rap scene such as those with Clementino, Paura and DJ Tyone.
In 2015, his career turned around when he participated in the third edition of the singing talent show “The Voice of Italy”, passing the initial selections and joining Noemi’s team. After his television experience, Noemi herself offered him the opportunity to be a Back Vocalist during her concerts. This allowed Greg to go on tour for two years and participate in events such as the Concerto del Primo Maggio in Rome, the Coca Cola Summer Festival, the “Giorgio Gaber” award, the “MusiCultura” award and “Fronte del Palco” for RadioItalia.
In June 2019 he was the overall winner of the TV show “All Together Now” hosted by Michelle Huzinker and JAx, beating all the competitors and performing a duet with NEK.
In 2015 he released his first single “Sempre così” produced by Daniele Franzese’s DharmaRecording Studio.
In 2016, in collaboration with Profugy and Giulia Olivieri, he released another single: “Paura d'o mare”.
In 2017 a new project was born: “Greg Rega Electro Soul Experience”, a collective of seven musicians that includes the possibility of extending the initial line-up to other elements, with which Greg offers original songs from his repertoire as well as a selection of the best Funk, Soul and Rhythm' blues music in a modern and electronic key.
