One of the biggest problems in Campania, as far as the summer season is concerned, is represented by forest fires.
The frightening and apocalyptic images of Vesuvius in flames three years ago remain etched in the mind. The result, then as now, was a huge environmental damage, as well as the destruction of one of the most beautiful and visited landscapes in the world.
From today, July 1st, until September 30th 2020, there will be an absolute ban on burning plants, their residues or other materials related to the exercise of agricultural activities on the land, even if uncultivated, of public and private vegetable gardens, parks and gardens, as well as the burning of forest plant residues.
“The risk of fires with the arrival of summer is increasingly high and only three years ago it led to the almost total devastation of the pine forests of Vesuvius”, stated General Carmine De Pascale, Regional Councilor of the civic group “De Luca Presidente”, as well as President of the Regional Committee for Civil Protection.
“The dramatic images of the fires are still alive in our eyes. This must never happen again! But everyone must do their part: prevention, attention, civic sense and reporting of fires, where the citizens themselves must be sentinels of the territory, their territory, our territory”.
“Anyone who spots a fire – added De Pascale – that affects or threatens a wooded area, is required to raise the alarm by calling the toll-free number of the Campania Region: 800449911 or that of its nearest territorial headquarters, by calling the number 115 of the National Fire Brigade, by calling the number 112 or 1515 of the Forestry Carabinieri, by calling the competent territorial body, or by calling other police forces.
My hope is that such episodes will never happen again and that carelessness and personal interests will be overcome by good conscience and prevention. We are doing our utmost and never let our guard down!”.
Then again: "Preserving and protecting the environment and the natural beauty of our territory remains a fundamental duty of the citizen. Carelessness, superficiality, indifference do nothing but contribute to the destruction of the magnificent beauty of Campania (and not only). Action is therefore necessary, and we must do it quickly, before it is too late".
The prohibitions will be numerous and will be severely punished. Among these we remember the prohibition of: lighting fires of any kind; detonating mines or using explosives; using flame or electric devices to cut metals; using engines (with the exception of those used to carry out authorized forestry work and not in conflict with the PMPF and other regulations in force), stoves or incinerators that produce sparks or embers; smoking, throwing matches, cigars or lit cigarettes and carrying out any other operation that could create an immediate or indirect fire danger; carrying out pyrotechnic activities, lighting fireworks, launching rockets of any type and/or paper hot air balloons better known as flying lanterns equipped with open flames, as well as other pyrotechnic articles; driving and/or parking with motor vehicles on unpaved roads within wooded areas, with the exception of service vehicles and agro-forestry-pastoral activities, in compliance with the rules and regulations in force.
