This morning, the Prefect of Naples, Marco Valentini, chaired the observation table on urban security at the III Municipality in the presence of the Councilor for Urban Security, Alessandra Clemente, the President of the Municipality, the local heads of the offices and commands of the Police Force and the Municipal Police, the representative of the Regional School Directorate and the representative of the Deanery.
LToday's meeting is the fifth in a series of meetings scheduled by the Prefect at the
Municipalities of the capital, aimed at direct comparison with the needs of the territory and the expectations of citizens.
The geographical area of interest includes and is characterised by the presence of neighbourhoods
extremely populous which, in many cases, record low levels of education and high
criminal concentration among which the Rione Sanità is included, which – despite being located in the
historic center of the capital – is characterized by multiple critical issues, bringing with it such social marginalization that it is assimilated to peripheral areas of the city.
In particular, in the area of the III Municipality, there is a high unemployment rate,
especially among young people, which favors the black market and the spread of criminal behavior. Furthermore, the phenomenon of early abandonment and dispersion
school has reached very high peaks, with the consequent loss of opportunities deriving from the completion of studies or serious professional training but also the greater propensity to choose a path of deviance and recruitment by crime.
However, there is a strong presence of associations aimed at providing a response
concretely to the weakest groups through social, educational, cultural and sporting initiatives.
In the Rione Sanità, which has the characteristic of being a place rich in an immense
artistic and historical heritage, there are active cooperatives of young people from the parish community, appropriately trained in the recovery and restoration of works of art.
The Prefect underlined the importance of increasing collaboration between institutions,
creating a stable network through the contribution of associations and local residents active in the
territory, so that frequented but degraded places are at the center of projects and interventions to ensure the well-being of the community. The meeting was adjourned to the beginning of next September.
