Still a few 'bites' of the hydraulic pliers and the green sail of Scampia, a suburb of Naples, only a pile of rubble will remain which, once removed, will give way to an urban redevelopment project.
LThe demolition of the 50 cubic meters of the structure, which began in February, was interrupted during the lockdown due to covid-19, causing the completion of the works to be postponed by a few weeks. In place of the sail, symbol of Gomorrah, the construction of social structures is planned to support the neighborhood also interested in other interventions such as the creation of a university center.
The work of the pliers, one of which is tens of meters high, does not go unnoticed and many citizens of the neighborhood stop to photograph the workers at work. The demolition of the sail, like the other buildings in Scampia branded over the years as a place of drug dealing and the setting for the television series 'Gomorra', was greeted by a popular celebration with hundreds of people, including the mayor de Magistris, who attended the start of the work, calling out to the workers "Tear it down! Tear down the sail and with it all the prejudices that have been heaped upon us".
