4 illegal landfills discovered in Vesuvius National Park.
Illegal landfills located within the protected area of the national park, a truck driver reported for illegal waste transportation and a workshop found to be proof of authorizations seized. This is the result of a series of activities to combat environmental crimes, falling within the "Terra dei fuochi" protocol, carried out by the Carabinieri of the Torre Annunziata company in the areas located within and near the Vesuvius park and in the surrounding areas.
The interventions were supported by military personnel from the forestry stations of the territory and the helicopter unit of Pontecagnano (Salerno). As part of these activities, in Boscotrecase the Carabinieri of the Trecase station - together with the Forestry officers of the Boscoreale station and with the flight support of a helicopter of the Arma - identified four illegal sites intended for the dumping of waste in the locality of Fruscio, inside the national park.
Construction waste, vehicle body parts, bulky items of various kinds, plant waste and various plastics were found in the illegal landfills. The area involved was found to be occupied by 225 cubic meters of waste and was seized for subsequent remediation. Investigations are underway in an attempt to identify the perpetrators of the spills.
In Terzigno, instead, the military of the local station identified and reported to the judicial authorities a 45-year-old man, caught while transporting mixed special waste from demolition and construction activities without authorization on his truck. The truck was seized together with almost three cubic meters of waste.
Finally, in San Giuseppe Vesuviano, the Carabinieri identified a completely illegal mechanical workshop, set up by a 49-year-old man: the illegal business had been set up in a warehouse belonging to the home where the forty-nine-year-old resides. Inside, several work tools were found.
The illegal treatment of waste was also ascertained: in particular, the fumes were released into the atmosphere without any treatment or filter, while the waste water was poured directly into the ground. Even the residues from the processing, consisting of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste, were disposed of in a completely irregular manner. The entire warehouse, covering a surface area of approximately 200 square meters, was seized.
