Bringing cinema where cinema is not at home: the watchword of Corto ea capo resonates strongly in this VI Edition that will be held from 18 to 23 August 2020 in Venticano, Montemiletto and Trevico. The Irpinia festival continues in its objective, underlines the artistic director Umberto Rinaldi, "to bring cinema to the suburbs, to the internal areas, to those areas where it is often difficult to see moving images beyond the screens of one's cell phones or televisions. We pursue the paradox of making cinema central thanks to the attention of decentralized areas and of making the suburbs central thanks to the power of images and cinematic storytelling. From farmyards to squares, from cellars to terraces, from old farmhouses to open-air arenas, every place for us becomes a good place to host cinema, to tell stories, to show faces, places and realities different from those we normally see on the screens". The theme of the 2020 edition is Terra Mia! Creation, conservation and life, Rinaldi specifies: “Fertile and creative, nourishing and thriving, the earth contains both the more poetic characteristics of a welcoming and maternal womb, and the more earthly ones of constancy, patience and strength. That earth which, like cinema, can be at the same time death and rebirth, nourishment and danger, we hope that this year can become a fertile place where a hope and a sprout of thought can be (re)born”.

The Festival kicks off at Ludovico Van and the Naima bookshop in Montemiletto (AV): on Tuesday 18 August, from 21.00:19 pm, the first block of short films will be screened here, which will be voted on by a popular jury; followed by the out-of-competition screening of the documentary Poi si vede by Domenico Pizzulo in Irpinia Carpet. On Wednesday 21.50, we move to Ettore Scola's hometown, Trevico (AV), for the second screening of the competing short films at XNUMX:XNUMX pm, preceded by the award ceremony for Il principe delle pezze by Alessandro Di Ronza. Following, out of competition, the screening of a short film in homage to Ettore Scola, to celebrate the greatness of his cinema.

The kermesse will really get into full swing on Thursday 20 August, with the move to the Venticano (AV) theatre cavea. Highly anticipated for his concert, Nicola Piovani will play at 21.00pm with Marina Cesari on sax and Marco Loddo on double bass with his Leçon-concert: La musica è pericolo. The Oscar winner, one of the most appreciated Italian musicians abroad, will propose an autobiographical journey through memories, anecdotes and emotions. Afterhours will follow with screening and voting, finally for Irpinia Carpet the screenings of Vado e torno (Carlo Barbalucca) and Vento del sud (Ivan Iarrobino). During the evening there will also be the painting exhibition Tra le spighe by Luigi Fuschetto and the photography exhibition Retra – Terra in movimento (various authors), which will continue until the 22nd.

Friday 21 August there will be another of the key moments of Corto ea capo 2020. At the Arena of the Multisala Gaveli in Benevento the screening of Il Delitto Mattarella, the new film by Aurelio Grimaldi, who will be present for a meeting together with the director of photography Alfio D'Agata. The film tells the story of the killing of the president of the Sicilian region Piersanti Mattarella and given the block on its release due to Covid-19 it is finally in circulation, previewing for Campania right in Benevento. The second part of the evening will be held in Venticano with the screening of the competing shorts and the awarding of the Mario Puzo Prize to Grimaldi (author of cinema 2020), to D'Agata (writing with light) and in particular to the great Ken Loach. During the evening the painting exhibition La terra è donna by Dina Pascucci will be exhibited, for children in the Giardini della Cavea there will be a corner of guided screenings with the presence of animation.

Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd two days of finals in Venticano and Montemiletto. Screenings of shorts out of competition in Irpinia Carpet, the awards with the votes of the popular and technical jury. Significant screening of the participatory documentary Il Covid, il letargo e la nascita, made as every year in the festival workshop. Sunday final appointment with the presentation of the book Da domani mi alzo tardi by Anna Pavignano, historic screenwriter of Massimo Troisi's films, who recounts her friendship with Massimo in this book. Evening finale with the Drive in in Piazza Mercato, with screening of the winning shorts and a night dedicated to horror and fantasy shorts.

Corto ea capo was born in 2015 with the aim of spreading cinematographic culture through screenings and meetings with authors, actors and protagonists of cinema, privileging those figures who move outside the official circuits and the classic channels of fruition. It takes place in towns in the Irpinia province where it often becomes the only possibility to come into contact with cinematographic works without having to move. Every year Corto ea capo has a specific theme, around which the entire edition is built between cinema, music, meetings with guests, books and participatory documentaries.
