Volunteers with Vinicio Capossela extraordinary cleaning of floating and beached waste on the banks of the Sele river
Sponz acQuà!, the eighth edition of the Sponz Fest, a festival conceived and directed by Vinicio Capossela scheduled from 25 to 30 August in Calitri and the surrounding municipalities of Alta Irpinia, the Sele Valley and towards the sea, from the source of the Ofanto to the mouth of the Sele, was presented this morning at the nautical pier at the Foce del Sele in Paestum.
And this morning, after the presentation, a preview took place with Sponz Fest, which, together with Legambiente Campania and volunteers, launched an initiative to combat plastic and waste pollution in rivers and seas. Legambiente volunteers, led by Vinicio Capossela, initiated a special cleanup of floating and beached waste on the banks of the Sele River. This citizen science initiative was supported by a Legambiente vessel that collected samples at the mouth to monitor the river's health.
"We are pleased and honored," said Mariateresa Imparato, president of Legambiente Campania, "to participate in a different, unique, yet special edition of the Sponz Fest. It is important for Legambiente to return, with due precautions, to listen, meet, and look people in the eye to rediscover and recover the practical action that allows the seeds of virtuous relationships to sprout. The concrete action of cleaning the river mouth and the daily practice of ecology within the Festival, starting with the choice to dedicate this edition to the theme of water, represent an important alliance for us to convey, through music, art, and culture, global issues such as the fight against river and sea pollution, starting in our own territories through the conscious action of active citizens."
