A former Soviet traffic police officer, Sergey Torop leads a community with thousands of followers in Siberia known as the “Church of the Last Testament.”
NToday, as reported by “La Stampa”, there was a major operation by Russian special forces in a part of Siberia against a community with thousands of followers called the “Church of the Last Testament” headed by a man.
The operation was conducted in the village called “City of the Sun” in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia, where for about 30 years the former Soviet traffic police officer, Sergey Torop, who claims to be the “son of God” and the reincarnation of Jesus and calls himself Vissarion, is 59 years old and has led this community for about 30 years.
The indictment made by the Russian Investigative Committee accuses him of having created an illegal religious organization, a sect that extorted money from its followers and abused them psychologically.
. At the moment, however, it is not possible to establish whether the charges brought against the “Siberian Jesus” are well-founded or not, and in the past the Kremlin has not always respected the freedom of religion guaranteed by the Constitution.
Russian state news agency Ria Novosti also published a video showing Sergey Torop being taken out of a van and escorted to a military helicopter by masked, armed men. Two of Vissarion's closest associates were arrested along with him: Vladimir Vedernikov and Vadim Redkin, who was a drummer in a boy band in the Soviet Union. The three arrested men face up to 12 years in prison.
