Another 11 citizens of Monte di Procida have been infected with coronavirus. Mayor Giuseppe Pugliese announced this on his Facebook page yesterday evening. In the meantime, the ASL serological screening of the entire population has been concluded.
“A further update on the Covid-19 emergency in Monte di Procida is necessary in light of the latest news we have received in these hours. According to the latest communications we have had, there are 11 more positive cases in the town,” wrote Mayor Pugliese. And then he added: “By virtue of all this, I am preparing a new ordinance with further restrictions to protect public health. We have organized ourselves with the ASL to carry out a greater number of swabs here in Monte di Procida. Do not worry: they will be carried out according to the priorities dictated by the ASL itself and therefore based on epidemiological links. Unfortunately, after this further update, the total cases of Covid-19 in Monte di Procida rise to 33, of which, I repeat, 10 were officially communicated by the ASL and 23 were from swabs carried out at private facilities. The latest fellow citizens who tested positive are mostly asymptomatic, some have mild symptoms. Further updates will follow but, in the meantime, let's not panic and respect the rules."
It was a big wedding party that caused a Covid outbreak to explode in Monte di Procida. The municipal territory, as the symptoms of the virus spread, was immediately sealed off by the mayor, Giuseppe Pugliese. Schools, public and private parks, gaming and betting rooms and seniors' clubs will remain closed until next Tuesday. Furthermore, both competitive and amateur sports activities, private parties and home dinners with more than ten people are prohibited. The aim is to slow the spread of the infection. The mayor provides a concrete snapshot of the emergency situation in the Phlegraean municipality: "I had to close the schools because the data I received from school principals shows that 50% of teachers are in home isolation waiting to take a swab or to find out if a family member is positive. It is impossible to carry out teaching activities in this situation".
At the center of attention, therefore, the celebration of the wedding between a citizen of Monte and a woman of Polish nationality concluded with a mega banquet attended, according to the data provided by the ASL Napoli2 Nord, by about 200 people. A few days later, here are the first symptoms of the virus with the use of nasopharyngeal tests in a private laboratory to avoid waiting for the not always rapid times of the ASL. Tests that according to what the mayor reported have ascertained "that out of eighty people examined, more than half were positive". The use of private individuals, apparently unauthorized, led to the formal warning of the Phlegraean health company to the mayor Pugliese as "the results would not have been reliable in order to limit the contagion and avoid that infected patients, resulting as false negatives, can transmit the virus" as stated in a note from the same ASL. The ASL Napoli2 Nord, therefore, set up a health stand at the town hall to carry out an extraordinary collection of swabs. The screening, with the support of the Civil Protection and municipal staff, was carried out on 130 wedding participants.
