“Key of Montevergine”: work continues on the colossal work by Milot that we will soon see at the Avellino Ovest motorway exit. Commissioned by the President of the Province of Avellino, Domenico Biancardi, built under the artistic direction of Michele Stanzione, it will be 40 meters high, in corten steel, a universal symbol of freedom and peace, it will guide the ascent to the Sanctuary of Montevergine
Work continues on the creation of the colossal work “Key of Montevergine” by the artist Alfred Mirashi Milot, under the artistic direction of Michele Stanzione, and the actual construction thanks to the company Metal Zurlo, for the Key, a positive symbol of hope, desired by the President of the Province of Avellino Domenico Biancardi.
The installation location was not chosen by chance, nor was the title of the work, which is over 40 meters tall, made of Corten steel, a material that the artist prefers, and which will be installed in the Mercogliano roundabout, at the Avellino-Ovest motorway exit, known to all as the beginning of the climb to the Sanctuary of Montevergine, one of the six Italian territorial abbeys, visited every year by one and a half million pilgrims.
A work that everyone will see as a universal "cry" for mutual respect between people, so that they live in peace with each other and there are no more closed and distant places. The artist wants, in such a difficult moment for the whole world, to give a message of hope that aims to reawaken the collective thinking of a society that has recently lost self-esteem.
"Mine is a positive message of hope, to distance the individual or collective fears that surround us - Milot declared - especially today that, due to the pandemic, we fear our neighbor more than before. We all have the right to realize our dreams, and everyone must be guaranteed the same opportunities to do so".
In recent years the “key” has become a reference emblem for Milot, a symbol of all his works, both in painting and sculpture, and in large installations. The “Keys of Milot” are a universal symbol of freedom and peace against the attachment to power of contemporary society, and in particular against the complicated bureaucratic system that represents a great limit of the international capitalist system.
Conceptually, the key, an everyday object becomes a means to recover one's past with the joy of the present to look to the future. To do this, the President of the Province of Avellino Domenico Biancardi, invited the artist Milot to create "Key of Montevergine", choosing a symbolic place for his installation. A roundabout, a circle without beginning or end, almost to symbolize the circle of life, a rebirth of a free society, open to everything and everyone, open to dialogue, to comparison, and in which there is a possibility for everyone.
