There are a total of 62 cases of coronavirus positivity in Monte di Procida, a municipality in the Campi Flegrei area where in recent days there has been an increase in infections largely linked to participation in a wedding in a nearby municipality.
Following the increase in infections, the ASL Napoli 2 Nord intervened by performing, between yesterday and today, about 280 swabs on the same number of people involved and direct contacts. "We thought we had managed to limit this contagion, in fact we are succeeding but the numbers are different from what we expected", explained the mayor of Monte di Procida, Giuseppe Pugliese, who this evening signed a new ordinance that is more restrictive than the one signed last Saturday. The new ordinance confirms the closure of all public and private schools, of all levels, for the entire week and establishes the prohibition for citizens of Monte di Procida of "any type of gathering, indoors or outdoors on public or private land that is not linked to institutional activities" and of "private events (communions, birthdays, anniversaries) that determine the gathering of even a minimal number of people". The ordinance also requires all commercial and public establishments to "conduct screening of owners and employees or workers through nasopharyngeal swabs by midnight on October 24".
Bars, restaurants and public establishments are also required to "organize themselves to stagger access through appropriate reservations and ensure distancing in their premises", while outside the premises "interpersonal distancing must be guaranteed by the operators". The "closure of gaming rooms and betting shops" and "the closure of barbers, hairdressers, beauty centres, including with reference to activities carried out at home" are ordered. Confirming the stop to all public events and demonstrations and the closure of senior centers, recreational clubs and gyms, the celebration of funerals is permitted but "only in private form, with the participation of family members and relatives, and in any case with a maximum number of 20 people attending, also limiting access to the cemetery to this maximum number".
The mayor also made an appeal to “the Montesi of America”, citizens originally from the small town of Campi Flegrei who have long since emigrated to the United States: “We need to place positive cases whose family nucleus is not infected in other homes – Pugliese said in a video – I ask you to offer us the possibility of using your homes. The Municipality is committed to sanitizing them and guaranteeing their use according to certain characteristics”. In Monte di Procida there has been a sudden increase in infections, many of which are linked to a wedding celebrated in a nearby town. “I ask you for a form of support – added Pugliese, addressing the Montesi emigrants – Monte di Procida does not have large hotel facilities and 'solidarity homes' are needed. Some have already done so, some positive cases have already received the offer of a home from the Montesi of America. I truly ask you with all my heart, you have always supported our community with affection and generosity. It is a particular moment, you are also experiencing a crisis but I ask you for some form of support", concluded the mayor of Monte di Procida.
