A large-scale operation against transactional child pornography on the Internet was conducted by the police and coordinated by the District Attorney's Office of Catania.
There are over 100 experts from the postal police who are carrying out searches and seizures in Bolzano, Brescia, Catania, Chieti, Como, Lecco, Milan, Naples, Parma, Pisa, Rome, Savona, Sassari, Turin, Treviso and Varese as well as in other foreign cities. Twenty Italians have been reported, three of whom were arrested in flagrante delicto because they were held responsible for the possession and dissemination of child pornography as well as incitement to pedophilia. Numerous foreigners have been reported to the authorities of their countries of residence.
The investigation was carried out after a long undercover operation, with the suspects using anonymization systems (TOR, VPN) and encrypted messaging services to exchange child pornography photos and videos, catalogued according to age, gender and ethnicity, with horrifying content of abuse of minors, including newborns, some of whom were victims of sadistic practices. On several occasions they shared stories of their sexual experiences with minors. During the investigation, the officers of the Postal Police of Catania and the National Centre for the Fight against Online Pedophilia of the Postal and Communications Police Service of Rome, thanks to meticulous research, collection and analysis of data, also managed to locate some of the places of abuse and identify three victims.
