The laundry hanging on the balconies below could save the life of a 40-year-old woman who threw herself from the fourth floor of her home a few dozen meters from the Pozzuoli seafront in the late afternoon.
The woman ended up on the pavement after her fall was cushioned by clotheslines anchored to the balconies. She was rescued immediately, and witnesses reported that she was conscious and breathing. Her husband, who had left the house just moments before, was among the first to help her. The 118 paramedics intervened on the scene and transferred the woman to the Emergency Room of the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in La Schiana. She is in serious condition, but doctors do not despair of being able to save her. The reasons behind the act are not entirely clear. The case is currently being investigated by the Carabinieri.
