Preziosi: 'Juve-Napoli deadly ad, it has undermined certainties'
“Juve-Napoli was a deadly advert for our football. It undermined some certainties, opening a chasm into which we have all sunk and from which it will not be easy to climb out”. This was stated by Genoa president Enrico Preziosi, dealing with the Covid-19 emergency in the squad, in an interview with Corriere dello Sport. “I still have fifteen positive players, none have tested negative, and they are almost all starters. I really don’t know how we will be able to present ourselves in Verona and against Inter. Ibra’s positivity lasted sixteen days, if mine were to follow his recovery times it would be a real disaster – he added – What do I do? Send six Primavera players onto the pitch? And what would the sporting value of the match be? The latest provision from the League provides for only one wild card in the face of ten positives per team, but that way we risk many 0-3s and we at Genoa end up in B without passing the start”. Preziosi was among the most critical of De Laurentiis. “One moment. Last Monday in an interview with Radio Capital I said that it was necessary to understand whether the intervention of the ASL had been requested by someone from Napoli or not. I realize that headlines must always be a bit strong and prurient, but anyway… The fact itself does not concern me, moreover, it is a matter for the federal prosecutor. It is understood that I would never dream of having the ASL intervene. From what I am told and what I hear, Napoli risks a penalty – he added – More than a risk, it is a certainty. However, the regulation is not right, it must be revised, there are no saints. I only hope that the championship continues and that its sporting value is not damaged. When I say that Juve-Napoli was a deadly advert for Italian football I have my good, indeed excellent reasons. We are in a very heated phase of the discussion on the future of our sport and we certainly did not need an incident like this. We presidents are working to guarantee the continuity and sustainability of the system”
