The prefect of Salerno, Francesco Russo, has ordered the suspension from office of the mayor of Eboli, Massimo Cariello; the measure was adopted following the order of the investigating judge with which the mayor was subjected to the measure of house arrest as part of an investigative activity conducted by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office.
IThe prefect's provision was sent to the president of the Eboli City Council for notification to the councilors. In the meantime, the majority city councilors and the new assessors (they were appointed yesterday) expressed in a note "full personal and political solidarity" to the mayor, "trusting that full light will soon be shed on the administrative procedures being evaluated by the magistrates, removing any shadow of irregularity from the mayor". The administrators also underlined that "they will continue with the administrative action with respect to the political acts already planned with Mayor Cariello, reiterating their belief that the mayor is extraneous to the facts contested to him". Solidarity was also expressed to the municipal officials "convinced that they operated legally and with transparent procedures". The deputy of the 5 Star Movement, Cosimo Adelizzi, instead wrote on social media that "my city did not deserve to receive this slap" and that "what happened is certainly a starting point on which the people of Eboli will have much to reflect on". For Adelizzi "there is a need, now more than ever, to roll up our sleeves for the future of Eboli and the people of Eboli".
