As part of an investigation coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of Naples, the Carabinieri of the Giugliano in Campania Company have executed a precautionary order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples against Manna Antonio, 45 years old from Melito di Napoli and Barbato Emanuele, 22 years old from Melito di Napoli, both recipients of prison custody, and Bennardino Matteo, 33 years old from Giugliano in Campania, recipient of house arrest. Specifically, Manna and Barbato, together with other individuals in the process of being identified, have been deemed seriously suspected of the crime of association for the purpose of drug trafficking, aggravated by the mafia method and purpose, while Bennardino is charged with the crime of possession for the purpose of dealing of large quantities of hashish.
The investigations, which arose from the hetero and self-accusatory statements of two brothers (both investigated in the same proceeding), sons of the partner of a collaborator of justice formerly affiliated with the Mallardo clan, have highlighted, also thanks to subsequent investigative evidence provided by telephone interception activities, the operation of the criminal group and its leader Manna Antonio who, as a contact person for the "Amato - Pagano" clan, had implemented various conducts aimed at establishing an association dedicated to drug-related crimes capable of moving, in the period under investigation, at least 112 kg of hashish and marijuana.
In particular, the investigation revealed that the brothers, who were responsible for guarding the drugs within the organization, had sold part of them to Bennardino without the organization's authorization, and then disappeared from circulation. Following this, Barbato Emanuele, who also has to answer for the crime of kidnapping, had deprived one of their friends of his personal freedom for a few hours to force him to reveal where they were hiding.
