On December 11, 1980, the mayor Marcello Torre was assassinated by the Camorra in Pagani. In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, he understood that maneuvers and attempts were already underway to get their hands on the public funding that was planned and that would be allocated for the reconstruction.
The story is well known and the same parliamentary commission led by the Honorable Scalfari wrote down in black and white what happened and how those billions were "spent" and who benefited from them.
If we do not reconstruct the historical context of that time, we will never understand the greatness and generosity of Marcello Torre.
And this is why on December 9th at 18,30:40 pm, the Memoria In Movimento association, the Libera garrison in Pagani, and the Brescia Anti-Mafia Committee "Peppino Impastato" of Brescia have organized a video conference initiative XNUMX years after his assassination.
An initiative that has the aim "with today's eyes" not only to remember and talk about that time and about Marcello Torre and all the victims of the mafia and crime, which in itself is important in our opinion, but to reflect and discuss the total lack of attention, which often turns into "collateralism", which characterizes the entire political, entrepreneurial and social system of our country.
Yet the mafias are increasingly doing their “dirty work” by creating further poverty and exploitation, further polluting our already precarious economy and compromising those few signs of potential economic and social growth in our territories.
Coordinated and moderated by Angelo Orientale, president of the association Memoria in Movimento, and introduced by Maria Di Serio, association Memoria in Movimento, the following will intervene and animate the debate:
Vittorio Salemme, Memory in Movement Association
Goffredo Locatelli, nephew of Marcello Torre
Federico Esposito, representative of Libera, Pagani garrison
Fernando Scarlata, Peppino Impastato Anti-Mafia Committee of Brescia
Marcello Ravveduto, professor at the University of Salerno.
