Beatrice Zagaria, the older sister of the Casalesi clan leader, has finished serving a three-year sentence and has been released Michele Zagaria, who was under house arrest.
The 65-year-old woman was arrested in December 2017 along with her sisters-in-law (the wives of the three brothers Antonio, Carmine, and Pasquale) as part of an investigation by the Naples DDA, which believed she was part of the clan, acting as a "spokesperson" for the wishes of her boss brother, who was incarcerated under the 41bis regime, and paying salaries to family members with the proceeds of illegal activities.

In the first instance, Zagaria was sentenced to six years and eight months for Camorra association and receiving stolen goods with the aggravating circumstance of mafia, then reduced on appeal to three years as the more serious accusation of having been part of the clan was dropped. The final instance of the trial will be held in mid-January at the Supreme Court.

On October 19, Michele Zagaria's other sister, Elvira, was also released from prison in Casapesenna, the town where the Zagaria family is born and resides. She had a role in the clan that was perhaps even more important than Beatrice, that of dealing with contracts for the Caserta hospital, for which she was sentenced to seven years with a final sentence; in October, Elvira finished serving almost all of her sentence, five years and nine months, having benefited from early release.
