This morning too, on a part of the Campania coast, in particular in the area of the Sorrento Peninsula, intense fog could be observed.
The phenomenon also affected part of the western area of the city of Naples - Yesterday it was the turn of the Phlegraean area and the islands of the Gulf, especially Ischia. The Functional Center of Civil Protection of the Campania Region explains that this phenomenon is due to a thermal inversion, that is, a current of warm air (in this case marine) superimposed on a layer of cold air that had accumulated on the mainland. This is the so-called "advection fog". The accumulation of humidity was also due to two factors that manifested themselves simultaneously: high pressure and poor ventilation.
