Extortion, robbery and illegal possession of offensive instruments.
With these charges the Carabinieri of the Sala Consilina company arrested Melchiorre Ferrara, 21 years old, domiciled in Polla and already known to the police. The victim of the extortion was a well-known businessman from Atena Lucana. The military, led by Captain Paolo Cristinziano, ascertained, also through telephone interceptions, that the 21-year-old had been collecting sums of money from the businessman for several months.
The investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Lagonegro Court, revealed that the extortionist terrorized the businessman using a gun, a pair of knuckle dusters and a knife. The investigation did not begin with a specific complaint from the victim, who was frightened by the extortionist's constant threats. The man was taken to the Potenza prison.
