Borrelli: “On Friday, the Anti-Camorra Commission will discuss a motion to request the removal of works that glorify crime.”
The controversy surrounding the large mural painted in the Spanish Quarter in homage to baby robber Ugo Russo, who died while attempting to rob an off-duty policeman, shows no sign of abating.
In fact, Russo's mega-face was the subject of an ordinance issued by the Municipality of Naples that provided for its cancellation by February 24, which however has been postponed to a date to be determined and in the meantime the Committee "Truth and Justice for Ugo Russo" is preparing to take to the streets in defense of the mural.
Former magistrate Aldo De Chiara also intervened on the issue, declaring in an interview with Il Mattino that the Municipality should act quickly to erase a mural that mythologizes a young man who died while dedicating himself to crime.
“The city is divided: on one side those who defend, support and mythologize crime, like Ugo Russo's father during the press conference of the committee 'Truth and Justice for Ugo Russo'; on the other side the healthy part that wants to rebel against all this, that wants to sweep away the criminal and Camorra culture.
So while there are those who will take to the streets to defend a mural that represents the mythologizing of those who take the path of crime, on Saturday 27 February we will be with Naples longing for legality to remember and pay homage to Irina, victim of femicide and deceased at Pellegrini while friends and family of Ugo Russo were devastating the emergency room, and to show solidarity with the police at the Pastrengo barracks where friends and relatives of Ugo Russo fired gunshots.
Regarding the issue of the murals and the illegal votive chapels built to celebrate Camorristi and criminals, I will present a motion on Friday to the Anti-Camorra Commission in the Region. We must remove every work that glorifies crime.” - declared the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli, member of the Anti-Camorra Commission in the Campania Region.
