The Vice President of the Regional Council of Campania and Senator Castellone: “Finally we are making another excellent facility available to citizens”.
“After five years of battles in the Regional Council and a series of initiatives at the national level with the involvement of our parliamentarians, we helped make the opening of an Emergency Room possible at the University Hospital of Naples. A need felt with greater urgency in the last year, when the explosion of the pandemic confronted us with a harsh reality, namely that our hospital facilities, despite being supported by extraordinary professionalism, were struggling to withstand the impact of an extraordinary emergency. We risked, due to the infections in the wards, seeing a fundamental hospital like the Cardarelli close, jeopardizing the entire health system throughout the Campania region. We were the first to call for the involvement of the University Hospitals in the emergency network, the only hospitals in Italy not to have an Emergency Room, even though they are equipped with the best specialties and around a thousand beds. It was the only way to relieve the pressure on all the other facilities in Naples”. This was declared by the vice-president of the Regional Council of Campania and regional group leader M5S Valeria Ciarambino and the senator and member of the Health Commission of Palazzo Madama Maria Domenica Castellone.
"In recent months - Ciarambino and Castellone continue - we met with the then Minister Manfredi and, subsequently, President Triassi, to whom we guaranteed all the necessary support, both at the parliamentary and regional level, so that the Campania Region can finally give substance to the project of opening a general emergency room at the University Hospital of Naples. With an additional excellent facility in the regional hospital network, we can guarantee adequate assistance, giving important support to hospitals like Cardarelli, systematically struggling with overcrowding and the stretcher emergency".
