Today is the last day of vaccinations in Naples for people over 80 years old.
The availability of Pfizer vaccines is in fact at the limit and therefore the remaining doses will be used to complete the immunizations of healthcare workers expiring 21 days after the first dose. Vaccination of the elderly should resume from March 3 with the new arrivals. So far, just over 9000 people over 80 have been vaccinated in Naples.
On Wednesday, March 3, 8.190 doses of Pfizer are expected at the ASL of Naples, which will be used to resume administration to over 80s, also continuing the planned boosters. Meanwhile, starting tomorrow, the vaccination center of the Mostra d'Oltremare will be exclusively dedicated to school staff, throughout the day, for the administration of Astrazeneca doses: the ASL Napoli 1 will go from a thousand to 2500 administrations per day to teachers and non-teaching staff, significantly accelerating the vaccination campaign for the school world.
“The lack of an adequate number of Pfizer vaccines compared to those who have joined the over-80 vaccination campaign does not allow us to continue with the administration, because the available doses, and part of those that will arrive, must be administered from today until March 17 to vaccinated people who have already received the first dose in the previous 21 days”. Explained the general director of the ASL Napoli 1 Ciro Verdoliva, explaining the stop to the elderly due exclusively to the small number of doses available.
"We believe - continues Verdoliva - taking into account the planning of upcoming supplies, we can guarantee the administration to over 80s on March 3, 4 and 5 for 1.000 calls per day. Only an adequate number of doses supplied could allow us to continue at a rapid pace. For school staff, however, given the availability of Astrazeneca doses, we have planned from tomorrow the possibility of vaccinating 2.500 people per day, so as to reach the goal of completing this category as soon as possible and move on to the next ones in compliance with the regional vaccination plan".
