Naples, the odyssey of an elderly woman affected by covid hospitalized in Maddaloni in ordinary hospitalization
From Naples hospitalized in Caserta for a form of Covid which, given the patient's age, requires sub-intensive care support.
No medium-intensity care places available in the city and the prospect, for the elderly woman, given the lack of receptivity of the Covid hospital network, of a transfer even outside the region, in the neighboring and border areas but also, in the initial negative response of all, in Tuscany. The place was then identified after a long search at the Covid center in Maddaloni.
For Mrs. Clara, born in 1922, 98 years old, alone and without children (only a nephew who lives in Milan) a guest of a well-known retirement home in the city located in Posillipo, it was a real odyssey. It is 4 in the afternoon, the 118 operations center receives an alert from a doctor at the retirement home. There is a patient positive for Covid who needs to be seen.
The lady, already registered for several days on the regional Covid platform, is positive to the molecular swab and it is feared that her health conditions have worsened. The 118 team arrives: the doctor performs the examination from behind and measures the patient's vital parameters.
The saturation is discrete but given her age and the request of the health workers who follow her, a hospitalization in sub-intensive care is recommended. Clara is alert and well oriented but she is 98 years old: the place is initially not found. Then the green light goes to Maddaloni where however then, after the first checks, the lady goes to occupy a place in ordinary hospitalization.
