Discharged from the Dono Svizzero hospital after being at the point of death due to a large wound to his leg, Romeo Bondanese's 17-year-old cousin is now under investigation for aggravated brawling.
The notice of investigation was served on him by the prosecutor of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Rome Maria Perna after she had downgraded the crime of voluntary homicide for the peer from Casapulla - the alleged perpetrator of the murder of the student from Formia - to manslaughter, alongside that of aggravated brawl. The issuing of the provision against the 17-year-old from Formia was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Bondanese family, the lawyer Salvatore Orsini, considering it a "due act" in a precautionary phase in which the investigations are still ongoing, as reiterated by the deputy prosecutor Perna during an informal meeting with one of the two lawyers of the injured parties, the lawyer Tina Di Russo.
Together with Romeo's cousin, at least a couple of young people from the province of Caserta are also under investigation for aggravated brawl. They had come to Formia to spend the evening of Carnival in the company of the 17-year-old from Casapulla. The defense of the young man now under investigation intends to clarify his position as soon as possible; the 17-year-old would have immediately arrived on the terrace overlooking the dock of La Quercia but only after Romeo's fatal attack. He would have tried to block his stabber and for this reason he also received a stab to the quadriceps.
That the investigations have entered the heart of the matter is confirmed by an important and sensational assignment that the magistrate in charge of the investigations has conferred on the morning of Wednesday. The deputy prosecutor Perna, who also met with the lawyers of the young man from Casapulla, the lawyers Luigi Tecchia and Giuseppe Biondi, has instructed the toxicologist of the Policlinico Gemelli Sabina Strano Rossi to carry out an expert assessment of the people under investigation who are currently at large. The examination will also concern some organic evidence collected during the autopsy of poor Romeo Bondanese and has one objective: to verify whether the participants or the victims themselves of the attack on the evening of Shrove Tuesday had taken narcotic substances or not before the tragic episode.
Dr. Strano Rossi has asked for 45 days before delivering her toxicology report to the prosecutor and has announced – according to what has leaked from legal circles – that she will begin her “non-repeatable” investigations between Friday and Saturday. The assignment of this task to the toxicologist from Gemelli – the lawyers of the injured parties, Vincenzo Macari and Tina Di Russo, have made known – reiterates how the investigations are being carried out in all directions and this expertise does not want to leave any stone unturned.
