Being a music producer today, in the era of the exasperated web and social media that increasingly dominate: a long but rapid path that has led users to enjoy music in this new guise, adapting to the times we live in.
The sector has changed, 360 degrees, from those who use it to the artists, including those who produce it. And it is precisely on music production that we want to focus to understand how this profession works today, how it has changed. We talk about it with Antony Turiello, a music producer born in Lacco Ameno and now living in Tuscia.
What does it mean to be an artist working in music today?
“Being a musical artist is something that is born mostly from love and passion for music, then fueled by everything that is around it. It is the only way to resist the various adversities that are found along the way. I have always experienced music in this way: a passion that was passed on to me when I was little by my uncle, who at the time played in the clubs on the island of Procida where I grew up.”
How did the idea of working in music production come about?
“Let's say that the idea was born from a passion mixed with the desire to learn to play music from an early age; as a boy I had a dear friend who directed me on this path, teaching me the basics of production and the fundamental techniques to create with the support of current digital instruments. We are therefore talking about PCs, keyboards, good quality studio monitors. All of this must necessarily be accompanied by many hours of production to refine the techniques and various skills that allow you to create good music.”
What kind of music do you produce?
“I like to think I have my own musical genre that is in step with the most popular genres among young people, as well as that segment of the public that frequents clubs. A genre that we can define as House mixed with futuristic Sounds with a Deep vein.”
Which artists do you look up to?
“My music was born inspired by many artists who are now part of the world interface of the most quoted, those who have made history. I think of the legendary Daft Punk, who with their sound have made entire generations dance since the 90s and who just this month have also announced the end of their project, saying goodbye to the world of music production and concerts to retire. With them an era closes, they were an icon of the French Funk house genre.”
What are the difficulties encountered in working in music production?
“When I started I felt very uncomfortable, I thought production was quite complicated; only thanks to dedication and perseverance I managed to become what I am. It is important to live music first of all as a passion, without the burden of having to necessarily arrive, and never get discouraged: personally I can say that the inspiration given by great artists mixed with ambition was the ideal mix that allowed me to undertake a career as a music producer.”
