Rider from Benevento reports: 'Beaten and robbed without protection'
"It's shameful that the company we work for doesn't protect us at all. We get water, wind, cold and frost. They beat us, they rob us and they laugh at us but nobody does anything. Mine is a vent but I hope it serves as a lesson for everyone."
This is the message posted in early January on Facebook by a rider who works for Glovo in Benevento and reported in a report by the Carabinieri of the Nucleo Tutela Lavoro, part of the investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office which focuses on the Italian branches of the main delivery companies and in which there are 6 suspects. The young man, 750 deliveries in about seven months and "only 2 negative reviews" and who has always behaved in a "professional manner both with partners" and with customers, said he saw his account suspended for a few days for "defending" a "newbie" colleague who was unjustly accused by the "manager" of a restaurant "of having eaten the sandwich from an order".
At first he took the boy's side with "politeness" but then when the manager in "strict Campania dialect and with a haughty air" ordered him to step aside "I got angry and we had a heated discussion that ended there after 5 minutes". That day, however, he received a phone call from a Glovo employee who informed him that his account had been blocked for the weekend due to his behavior defined as "incorrect" and then "evaluate the subsequent reactivation, without even the right to reply or hear explanations". The post, addressed to all the other riders, ends with the phrase "never let your guard down".
