Checks by the Carabinieri of the Environmental Protection Command, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata, to combat the phenomenon of environmental violations at the main production and waste treatment plants in the province of Naples.
About a month after the first seizures, the Carabinieri of the Noe of Naples, supported by the military of the Torre Annunziata Group, concluded the verification activities of the industrial plants operating within the nautical complex "ex area Aprea Mare", located in the Municipality of Torre Annunziata and managed by the company "Condominio Marina di Torre Annunziata", within which there are companies operating in the sector of hauling, storage and maintenance of boats. During the first inspection, the military of the Special Department of the Arma, after having ascertained that the purification plant for black water, runoff and rainwater serving the entire nautical complex had serious malfunctions that had compromised its operation, so much so that the liquid waste, accumulated inside a storage tank, through a bypass system and submerged pumps was poured directly onto the bare ground, subjected both the purification plant and the by pass to seizure.
In the following days, the NOE Carabinieri began a series of blanket checks on all the factories present within the nautical hub, with the aim of verifying the regularity and compliance with environmental regulations for the protection of soil, water and air matrices.
At the end of the inspection activity, the military personnel reported at liberty to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata:
– no. 1 person for discharging waste water onto the ground without authorization;
– no. 2 people for illegal waste management, with the consequent seizure of no. 2 areas where hazardous and non-hazardous special waste was illegally stored;
– no. 4 people for unauthorized emissions into the atmosphere.
Some factories, in order to avoid the controls, had temporarily suspended their activity; nevertheless, those responsible were traced and reported to the AG for the shortcomings later contested by the investigators at the end of the controls.
The necessary checks are underway on behalf of the Torre del Greco Public Prosecutor's Office to ascertain the level of contamination of the soil where the liquid waste was dumped and to classify the abandoned waste for subsequent correct disposal, at the expense of the defendants.
