For the first time, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth, scene photos, scripts and documents from the Giuseppe Patroni Griffi Archive will be visible online
The significant selection of scene photos, scripts and documents comes from the Giuseppe Patroni Griffi Personal Archive – visible on www.bnnonline.it – which became part of the Neapolitan library in 2019 and has not yet been presented to the public due to the pandemic.
“The international prestige of the figure of Giuseppe Patroni Griffi – comments Gabriele Capone, director of the National Library – makes it a source of pride for our library to be able to preserve the personal archive of the important author, a documentary, textual and photographic collection, of notable historical and scientific interest, which includes many unpublished documents, theatrical texts, scripts, manuscripts and truly exclusive stage testimonies that currently represent what remains of his vast production.”
In thanking the director Fausto Nicolini, friend and theatrical assistant of the director in agreement with the artist's only heir, Aldo Patroni Griffi Terlizzi, for the generous donation, "The archive - adds Gabriele Capone - has found the right place among the precious collections of the Lucchesi Palli section, dedicated to the performing arts, the flagship of this library. The pandemic has forced us at the moment to postpone the initiatives scheduled for the year 2021 in which the centenary of his birth occurs, but we renew our commitment to ensure as soon as possible the digitization and cataloging of all the material of the Archive in order to allow the widest consultation and use. The aim of the National Library of Naples is, in fact, to promote a scientific and research project of international scope, which deepens the understanding of the innovative aspects of Giuseppe Patroni Griffi's production, providing us with new and further keys to reading a versatile intellectual who has influenced the changes in customs and the languages of literature and cinematographic and theatrical communication of the second half of the twentieth century." “I hope that this important promotion initiative, - concludes Director Capone – will also be realized with the contribution of the city, regional and national institutions, an important sign of definitive recognition of the extraordinary artistic activity of Giuseppe Patroni Griffi”.
