Waste dumping in the Sarno river: action plan launched by the Campania region together with the relevant EDAs
An attack plan to combat and stem waste dumping throughout the river basin. Sarno.
It is the one launched by the region Campania together with the relevant local authorities, including Ato3 Campania, which manages the integrated waste cycle of 59 municipalities in the Campania region, whose president is the lawyer Andrea Manzi, majority municipal councilor of the municipality of Casamarciano.
An ad hoc program that includes in its main functions, the strengthening of services and activities through the organization of local surveillance actions for the increase of the separate collection of solid urban waste with a safe post-operational management of the landfills located in the regional territory of reference.
The intervention, of over 570 thousand euros, falls within 32 municipalities of which 11 belong to the territory of Ato 3 Campania: Palma Campania, Poggiomarino, Striano, San Giuseppe Vesuviano, Castellammare di Stabia, Pompei, Santa Maria La Carità, Torre Annunziata, Sarno, San Valentino Torio, Bracigliano, Siano, Montoro, Solofra, Boscoreale, Scafati, Angri, Pagani, Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, San Marzano sul Sarno, Nocera Inferiore, Castel San Giorgio, Roccapiemonte, Mercato San Severino, Baronissi, Calvanico, Fisciano, Cava de'Tirreni, Corbara, Lettere, Sant'Antonio Abate.
The surveillance activity will be carried out in close collaboration with the Sarno Consortium, the reference municipalities and the interested Eda, each for its own territorial area and in close synergy with the Campania region according to an ad hoc weekly plan.
"A project in response to law 14/2016 of which the Campania region, together with the other bodies involved, is the protagonist by providing the right and immediate solutions to the problems that grip the territories affected by the phenomenon of waste abandonment and illegal dumping in surface water bodies along the banks of the river and canals of the Sarno river basin - explains the president of Ato 3 Campania Andrea Manzi - a high-risk condition that often leads to flooding due to the accumulation of waste near bridges or underpasses, causing not only major inconvenience but also critical issues relating to health and hygiene aspects with serious environmental impacts. The project - adds Manzi - will restore decorum to the environmental structure of a large, heavily penalized area of which the region, thanks to the commitment and diligence of vice president Fulvio Bonavitacola, is the protagonist by putting in place the necessary tools for a technical survey".
