The Prize was awarded to Nando Dalla Chiesa, an Italian writer, sociologist, and academic, founder and director of the University of Milan's Observatory on Organized Crime (CROSS), "because, as a staunch defender of justice and democracy, his scientific approach does not overlook the importance of human relationships. He feels the urgency of fostering knowledge in every possible way and investigates criminal phenomena with surgical precision, thus depriving the mafia of the nefarious breeding ground rooted in silence and nebulous reality." The Covid-19 Special Prize was awarded to Umberto Galimberti, a keen philosopher and analyst of human thought, "for having investigated and guided our consciences through his analyses of fear and anguish, but also the need for solidarity, during the long and complex pandemic period. His words helped us organize our thoughts, encouraging resilience to overcome the obstacle of fragility, recalling in otherness the need to feel and be responsible."
Special mentions go to Sergio Nazzaro, journalist and author, "for his investigations into Nigerian organized crime in Italy," and to the "students of all ages, from preschoolers to elementary and middle school students in Campania, forced into long and grueling periods of distance learning, because they demonstrated a high degree of responsibility and resilience. Because, despite the discouragement, they continued to smile, draw, color, and learn. Because they taught us that everything can be faced with the naturalness of those who listen and don't hesitate to react." Finally, special mention also goes to the LIPU, Caserta Section, the association known for the intense activity of its environmental guards and their commitment to the Salicelle Oasis, on the banks of the Volturno River in the province of Caserta.
